Custom Shop Help

Postby rumbleinthebronx » Sat Jul 09, 2011 8:56 pm

Hey everyone :smt006 I'm new to the forum and close to putting in an order for a custom shop Mirage, but before I do there are a couple of issues I hope you guys can help me with. First of all here are the basics:

BODY: Mahogany
CONSTRUCTION: Neck Through
NECK: Maple
NECK SHAPE: Thin U
FINGERBOARD: Ebony
FRETS: 24 Extra Jumbo Stainless Steel
SCALE: 25 1/2"
BRIDGE: Original Floyd Rose
PICKUP ROUTE: Hum/Slant SC
PICKUPS: Dimarzio Crunch Lab (B) Air Norton S (N)

I'll try and separate my questions below so I don't start to ramble
To start with, would ESP fit a Floyd Upgrades brass block, or would it be something that I'd have to do myself after I had received the guitar?
On the order form how should I specify a cutaway on the lower horn as seen on the Kiko sig? I've seen it referred to as a "treble horn scult" but I want to make sure it starts right along the neck, unlike the current Original/STD Mirage.
Finally I'm hoping someone with knowledge of paint codes/names could shed some light on the colour of the guitar I've posted below (which I'm basing the aesthetics of the custom off of), I read somewhere that it was Metallic Royal Purple, but it wasn't exactly a reliable source...

He wants a Mirage though Scott :) When I get some time I'll answer your questions rumble.
I would personally be quizzing a number of dealers in your country for them to answer them as well. If you choose a dealer who doesn't know the answers you might find they also struggle to communicate what you want exactly with ESP.
It's my feeling that we as dealers should know the answers, or find them, and the onus is not on the customer.

No problem Shock, I appreciate the replies :) I went to an ESP dealer here in Cardiff last week and they didn't seem to really follow what I was trying to explain, I guess they don't get many people ordering from the custom shop here in south Wales, but this was also the place where they looked at me funny a while ago when I asked if they had any tortex jazz picks...
I'll probably try out World Guitars this weekend since they're not too far from me, and it'll be worth the trip just for the amount of cool gear they've got (lots of private stock PRS etc) :D

As far as the Floyd Upgrades block go, that would be simpler to procure yourself and then have the dealer fit when they set up the guitar when it arrives.
The sculpt can be explained in the custom form in detail and illustration.
The colour, you can send the picture but a hard copy sample would be much better to ensure you're both seeing the same thing. You could have someone arty knock it up for you.
